Invisalign in Media
Invisalign
Invisalign refers to a brand name for flexible plastic aligners made
of a thermoplastic material used to straighten teeth. Invisalign can
correct minor and major teeth alignment problems. For major problems,
additional treatment may be needed. For example, if you have crowded
teeth your dentist may recommend the extraction of some teeth to fit the
aligners.
What to expect with Invisalign
Your Invisalign dentist creates a unique treatment plan for you. They
use computer software to generate images of your treatment plan. These
images guide your dentist in creating aligners that will fit
correctly.
Treatment is administered in sets. Each set of aligners is worn for
approximately 2 weeks or as advised by your dentist.
Each set is designed to slightly move your teeth closer to the end
result. These aligners deliver the desired force to move teeth in a
predictable way.
Invisalign aligners are worn daily but can be removed for brushing
and eating. You should wear them for approximately 20 to 22 hours a
day.
You may take breaks between changing sets but this is not recommended
because it can slow down your progress.
Living with Invisalign
Invisalign aligners may make you uncomfortable at first but you will
eventually get used to wearing them.
Eating
-
You can take out your aligners when eating. You should brush your
teeth before putting your aligners back. -
Do not chew gum while wearing aligners. It is recommended that
you remove them for all meals.
Lifestyle
-
Do not worry about talking and laughing out loud, it is highly
unlikely that your aligners will fall off. -
Smoking is highly discouraged as it can stain your
aligners. -
Wear your aligners while sleeping.
